Spinal Surgeon Dr. Vladimir Sinkov on Earning a Patients Trust by Darling Staff

Meet orthopedic surgeon Dr.Vladimir Sinkov! Dr. Vladimir's love for carpentry alongside growing up with parents who were physicians in Russia influenced his motivation to become a spinal surgeon. I've always wondered what kinds of interests MDs had as young children. I suppose my curiosity stems from criticism they receive for being "in it for the money" or prestige and often having "poor bedside manner." Throughout this series of interviews, it has become very clear that there is a much larger passion for healing & longevity that motivates physicians. There are easier routes to becoming wealthy. There are less stressful routes to earning prestige. And there are simpler ways to help people. Being an MD can be incredibly rewarding, but is often a thankless, stressful, and frustrating job. MDs sacrifice time with their own families to help ours. They over-extend themselves to accommodate patient's needs, even when they've already gone above and beyond to achieve almost impossible outcomes. They base their work on earning a patient's trust and then helping that patient feel better. They take continuing education courses to stay updated on the latest technology and have the knowledge to improve the quality of our lives & help us live longer. This interview really hit home when Dr. Sinov mentioned how he wouldn't perform surgery on his wife (7:59). At that point, it became clear to me that being a physician isn't about earning social recognition or money, it's about being a human that other human beings can trust with our lives. Most physicians understand this which can affect how "nice" they seem at times. They understand our pain, and are not emotionless - but focused on making the most responsible & efficient attempt to alleviate that pain. Physicians HAVE to remove some degree of emotion from their work to make logical, stoic decisions in the patient's best interest. Dr. Sinkov specializes in surgical treatment of all areas of the spine including decompression, fusion, minimally invasive techniques, scoliosis correction, disc replacement and kyphoplasty. He is trained in ProDisc Total Disc Replacement and NuVasive® XLIF® minimally invasive lumbar interbody fusion procedures. Let me know what you think of this interview in the comments...
