LMU announces Masters in Veterinary Education degree | Local News | citizentribune.com - Citizentribune

Lincoln Memorial University-College of Veterinary Medicine announces the first Master of Veterinary Education degree program in the United States, and the second of its kind in the world.

The new program will provide veterinary professionals with the teaching skills and academic credentials to teach veterinary medicine in higher education. LMU-CVM will begin accepting applications in January2021 for a start date of August 2021.

The new MVEd program is offered completely online and allows students to earn their graduate degree in education at their own pace. The full-time program can be completed within two years.

“As with any educational endeavor, the veterinary professional’s teacher is the most pivotal player in the quality of learning a student receives,” said Dr. Katherine Fogelberg, director for the Center for Innovation in Veterinary Education and Technology at LMU-CVM. “Our program provides a strong foundation in the discipline of education for those wishing to acquire a teaching position in a veterinary medical or technology program, or to teach as an adjunct professor.”

According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics from the U.S. Department of Labor, jobs for veterinarians and veterinary technicians are projected to grow 16% from 2019 to 2029, which is much faster than average. The need for more veterinarians and veterinary technicians increases the need for highly qualified educators in veterinary medicine and technology.

“With the ever-growing need for qualified veterinarians, we must ask the question, ‘who will teach the next generation?’” said LMU-CVM Dean Stacy Anderson. “Our program addresses unique challenges faced in veterinary education and prepares future professors in the best way to help budding veterinarians learn in the classroom and the clinic.”
