School board approves new courses for next year - Mat-Su Valley Frontiersman

MAT- SU — The Mat-Su Borough School Board has completed their meeting schedule for the summer and will not meet again until Aug. 4. At their final meeting on June 2, the school board approved six new courses available for MSBSD high school students to take. Among the six courses was the brand new Credit, Career, College, Community and Career course that will be required for all students to earn one full credit over the course of four years. "You've watched the development of this course over the last several months and many iterations and you've seen quite a bit on what this course, how it's designed and what its purpose is," said Assistant Superintendent of Instruction Traci Pedersen. The course introduced by Superintendent Dr. Randy Trani last fall has come under heavy scrutiny from members of the school community. Phil Murphy to receive grants totaling more than $9 million to expand two career and technical educational programs, as part of the Securing Our Children's Future Bond Act. One involves Peterson Farm Park while the second is a Global Logistics and Supply Chain Management program. ENCINITAS — Construction has been completed for the new Student Services and Administration Building at the MiraCosta Community College District's San Elijo Campus, it was announced today. The building replaces the previous administration building and consolidates student services on campus into a single location. The $13.9 million facility was designed to "provide a welcoming new gateway for the San Elijo Campus," a district statement reads. It is the first major new building completed under the district's $455 Measure MM construction bond program. "We wanted to make sure the first of the major new facilities was geared toward improving our ability to provide student support services," said Tom Macias, MiraCosta's director of facilities.
