Volunteers in the program help youth raise their academic standards and develop a positive sense of self. Volunteers from businesses in WAVE Country help students learn about different careers that may hold some interest for them. The clusters include arts, business, communications, computers, education, engineering, health and medical, and law and government.

Ryan McKinnon   | Sarasota Herald-Tribune Faculty at the University of South Florida learned Wednesday that the university will be eliminating its College of Education, a program that had once been the fifth largest college of education in the country.  The school plans to phase out its bachelor’s of education degree over the next few years, as the current students enrolled in the program finish. The master’s program will be shifted into another college, and the university will close the door on its College of Education. But now, with a pandemic on our hands, the issue has grown to not only the entire state but also the nation. On Friday, October 9, 2020, the Department of Education announced the rescission of and a replacement for the 2016 Handbook for Campus Safety and Security Reporting (“2016 Handbook”). The announcement also identified and explained the more significant changes between the 2016 Handbook and the “replacement,” which is a new Clery-related Appendix to the Federal Student Aid (FSA) Handbook. Why the rescission? Two reasons: First, the Department concluded that much of the guidance in the 2016 Handbook exceeded its relevant statutory (20 U.S.C. 1092) and regulatory authority (34 CFR 668.41 and 668.46). Second, the Department determined that the 2016 Handbook was “unnecessarily voluminous,” resulting in an “overriding focus on lengthy annual statistical reports, which may have taken resources away from the mission of campus safety.” What is the replacement? In 1949 she graduated from the Plano High School and later earned her Physical Education degree from UW-Madison where she met her future husband who was serving in the U.S. Air Force in Madison. On July 10, 1953 she married Albert "Bud" Wollin at the Plano First Baptist Church. She was a devoted worker for the Lake Mills McDonalds for 21 years. Marple was an active member of the Rock Lake Baptist Church in Lake Mills, Awanas Club, and Meals on Wheels volunteer. Nicholas Rudelic Nicholas Rudelic passed away peacefully on October 2, 2020 at Cornerstone Hospice after a long bout with Alzheimer’s. (WBNG) -- The U.S. Department of Education is investigating Binghamton University for a possible violation of freedom of speech and the Higher Education Act. In November of 2019, College Republicans were hosting a tabling event in a common space on campus. They say they were distributing information about a visiting speaker. The Department of Education says in this report, another unaffiliated group was nearby, displaying signs of support for the second amendment. This caused approximately 200 students to protest, and destroy material from the College Republicans. Elementary schools in the Aiken County Public School District will begin four-day instruction Monday, combining the red and blue hybrid cohorts into one group. All elementary school students will attend face-to-face classes Monday through Thursday. This will replace the hybrid model, in which student only attended physical classes two days per week. Friday will remain a remote learning day until Nov. 4, when schools at all levels begin five-day instruction. The school district has ordered about 8,000 shields for students' desks, but will not receive the first shipment of 3,000 shields until at least Oct. 19, said Mike Rosier, communications coordinator for the school district.
